MEERUT: During a regular check of suspected criminals and others, Meerut police arrested one person and seized 50 cartons of illicit liquor manufactured in Andhra Pradesh from him late on Wednesday night.
Police were checking vehicles when they chanced upon two men ferrying the liquor in their vehicle in the civic poll-bound district. While police managed to arrest one of them, the other fled, said Dharmendra Kumar, station house officer, Daurala police station, here on Thursday.

Giving details, Dharmendra Kumar said, “A police patrol team at Pabarsa crossing in Daurala area was conducting surprise checks on vehicles and suspected people. On a tip-off received earlier, the team zeroed in on one vehicle. It stopped the vehicle for a check. One of the men in the vehicle was arrested and 50 cartons of illicit liquor manufactured in Andhra Pradesh were seized.”
An FIR has been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian penal code and attempts are being made to arrest the other accused who is still at large.
