MUZAFFARNAGAR: Police in Muzaffarnagar have now appealed to the locals to help it track down drug peddlers in the district, a move through which the department expects to check the menace which is “spreading its tentacles at an alarming pace” in the region. Police have also assured to keep the identity of the informer a secret.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muzaffarnagar
Abhishek Yadav said, “We have received complaints that banned drug pills and injections are being sold at medical stores.
But we have no idea which medical shop is selling such drugs, so we need public help to curb such activity. We are also seeking help of informants to find the spots where drugs are being sold. I have already ordered to every police station to pay extra attention toward this.”
This comes days after police in Muzaffarnagar busted an inter-state gang involved in supplying drugs to school and college students in various states, including Delhi and
Haryana. Six members of the gang were arrested last week and 32,000 pouches of banned drugs were seized from them. Several policemen and local journalists are under the radar for their suspected involvement in the racket.
The SSP has now said that they have decided to rope in locals to provide information on the drug supply network. “Their identity will be kept secret and informer will be rewarded by cash,” he said.
