‘Withdrawing law may stoke tension’
Mangaluru: Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath expressing concern over the Congress government mulling over withdrawal of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, said the state may witness communal disturbances if the law is withdrawn. The BJP MLA also expressed concern over a possible rise in cattle theft in coastal districts causing loss to the farmers, if the law was withdrawn.“The withdrawal of the act, which was implemented during the BJP regime, will lead to a fearful atmosphere of communal tension in the state. A cow is a revered animal in Hindu culture. With an aim to conserve cattle breeds and also to give priority to the sentiments of the people, the BJP government led by BS Yediyurappa implemented the act. The implementation of the act had put an end to cattle theft instances in the state. Further, the functioning of illegal slaughterhouses was also stopped, bringing peace to society,” the MLA stated in a release.Kamath alleged that the Congress was engaging in vote bank politics. “The BJP will not allow Congress to create unrest in the coastal region,” he said.‘Let MLA concentrate on development’KPCC general secretary R Padmaraj said that MLA Kamath has been creating confusion among the people through his statements, that the state may witness communal disturbances.“The MLA, instead of discussing development, is engaged in making baseless allegations against the Congress government. Let him concentrate on the city’s development as the monsoon may create havoc. People are living in harmony after the Congress came to power in the state. Let the BJP stop instigating the public. The Congress will always be with the poor,” Padmaraj stated.
