BJP to protest against Waqf Board land encroachments today

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district BJP unit will hold a protest on Friday against the Waqf Board's alleged encroachments of land in the state. The demonstration will take place in front of the Gandhi statue near the Town Hall in Mangaluru from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Sathish Kumpala told reporters on Wednesday that the protest, which will be held under the slogan ‘Namma Bhoomi Namma Hakku' (Our Land, Our Right), aims to oppose the Waqf Board's alleged encroachments.
A team led by former MLC Monappa Bhandary and advocates was formed in Dakshina Kannada to investigate issues arising from the alleged misuse of Waqf Board powers. "Our study reveals that approximately 30 acres of revenue land in Mangaluru taluk has been transferred to the Waqf Board," he said. The team is currently examining the timeline and circumstances of these land transfers. Similar reports will be compiled for the entire district and submitted to the state BJP for further action.
There is a need to raise awareness among farmers, religious mutts, temples, bhajana mandirs, and SC/ST communities about the alleged encroachments by the Waqf Board. People are urged to check their Pahani records for any changes in ownership details. Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta and MLAs and MLC will participate in the protest. Additionally, members of Hindu crematorium committees, heads of mutts and other religious leaders are expected to join the demonstration.
Kumpala criticised the cancellation of BPL cards in the state, stating that the abrupt action, taken without prior notice, deprived many poor families of the benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
