Mangaluru: City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that ACP (South) sub-division Dinakar Shetty will probe the corruption charges levelled against the Ullal police station inspector and sub-inspector. Activist Mahammed Kabeer had filed a complaint against the officials, with the Lokayukta.
In his complaint submitted last year, Kabeer alleged that the Ullal inspector and SI were engaged in corruption, and had amassed wealth. A petition in this regard was submitted to the chief secretary, DGP, ACB, ADGP, Dakshina Kannada, deputy commissioner and the police commissioner. However, when no action was taken against them, he approached the Lokayukta. The complainant also alleged that he was issued threats.
The Lokayukta has asked the police commissioner to submit details, after verification, by February 14. Shashi Kumar said, “I have been asked to examine the petition, and submit a report like in any other petition. I have sought an inquiry report by the ACP South, and it will be submitted. The petition is under inquiry by the ACP.”
On an allegation of a complaint against the police commissioner himself, he said, “These are petitions of a serious nature. No such notice is issued to me. I was asked to examine it as a unit officer. Other things are not in my purview. If any allegation is levelled against me, then the competent ones will inquire into it.”
