DINDIGUL: A gang cheated three men of 90 lakh in Dindigul district after promising to provide a commission to them for exchanging 2,000 currency notes.
According to police, Sakthivel of Karur district allegedly told a man he befriended, Shahjahan of Tirupur, that he had a large number of 2,000 currency notes and needed to exchange them. He also said that he would give a commission to Shahjahan.

Shahjahan, along with two other friends, Gunasekaran, and Rajasekar, put together as much as 90 lakh in 500 currency notes to exchange with Sakthivel. He invited them to his farm at Kandamanayakanur near Eriyodu in Dindigul for the exchange. Sakthivel was supposed to have promised to give 1 crore if Shahjahan and others gave 90 lakh, hence giving them a commission of 10 lakh.
However, when Shahjahan, Gunasekaran, and Rajasekar went to the farm on Monday night, they were cornered by Sakthivel and eight others.
The gang then threatened them and took the cash of 90 lakh and also fled in the car they had. Later, they abandoned the car and escaped.
The three victims filed a complaint and a case was registered at Eriyodu police station. Further investigation was on and police are on the lookout for Sakthivel and others.
