Potholes on Iravathanallur Main Road put motorists at peril
Madurai: Large potholes on Iravathanallur Main Road in Madurai is disrupting traffic and even resulting in accidents. The road was damaged by overflowing sewage.
Residents complained about foul smell coming from an overflowing manhole on the road forcing traffic to navigate around it and has caused accidents of two-wheelers attempting to cross it. The road also has other potholes that slow down traffic.
“The pothole has grown to about half the size of the road and is causing troubles to motorists,” said Subramaniam, a resident of Iravathanallur. He added that drinking water pipelines from the Mullaperiyar project are leaking onto the road.
Meanwhile, garbage dumped at Vinayagar Colony in the area is also making travel more difficult for commuters.
Corporation workers have put up a barrier to prevent further accidents on the road. They covered the pothole with sand. Officials said patchwork will be done to fix the pothole. “Once the larger pothole is filled, we will fill other potholes as well,” the official said.
