A deep sea fishing vessel that sailed from Muttom Fishing Harbour in Kanyakumari district on last Friday with a six-member crew, is learnt to be in distress 72 nautical miles off Kanyakumari coast after running out of fuel.

KANYAKUMARI: A deep sea fishing vessel that sailed from Muttom Fishing Harbour in Kanyakumari district on last Friday with a six-member crew, is learnt to be in distress 72 nautical miles off Kanyakumari coast after running out of fuel.
The boat, El Shadai, had left the shore carrying its owner E John Kennedy from Chinnathurai coastal hamlet, along with Thomas, Antony, Lopez, Uruman and Christopher.

On Saturday, they found that they had run out of fuel and started sending SOS through the wireless set. A passing ship that picked up the distress signal relayed it to the Chennai Port, which in turn, alerted the fisheries department.
