The Hindu Mahasabha observed the day as ‘Godse-Apte Smriti Diwas’ and also reportedly awarded ‘Godse-Apte Bharat Ratna’ to Kalicharan Maharaj. Maharaj and four leaders of the Mahasabha were arrested in December last year for making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi during a Dharma Sansad held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

“Such celebration of Godse, who is the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, by an organisation is highly condemnable. Further, it is a disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi especially on the day of his death anniversary.,” said Muruganantham, secretary, Madurai city, Dravidar Kazhagam.
