Madurai: Govt Rajaji Hospital in Madurai gave away baby care kits on Wednesday. The programme was launched by minister for health and family welfare Ma Subramanian on Feb 13 and is being implemented across 92 the special infant care units in the state.
The kits were provided to babies weighing less than 2.5kg at the time of discharge after inpatient treatment. Each kit contains vitamin D drops, multivitamin drops, iron supplements, and an explanatory booklet for parents. The kits are issued once a month for up to six months or based on medical advice, the support may be extended up to 12 months. The aim is to prevent bone-related diseases such as rickets and anaemia caused by vitamin and iron deficiency and aid in bone growth, weight gain, eye development as well as improve immunity. Parents are advised to administer medicines strictly as per the recommended dosage.
