Woman hangs herself after newborn dies

Ludhiana: Unable to cope with the death of her newborn daughter, a 28-year-old woman hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Mand Jodhwal village of Machhiwara on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Parveen Kaur, 28, who was married to Palwinder Singh, a factory worker. Resham Kaur, the victim’s mother, said that her daughter got married in 2018 and had two daughters. One and a half months ago, she gave birth to another girl, who died after 14 days due to illness, pushing Parveen into depression. She added that Parveen, who was alone at home on Monday, hanged herself. Sub-inspector Saudagar Singh said that police have proceeded with section 174 of CrPC on the basis of the statements of Parveen’s mother.. tnn
