Protest over delay in compensatory job
Ludhiana: A Congress councillor, Gaurav Bhatti, staged a protest at the Municipal Corporation (MC) Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar on Tuesday alongside the family members of a sanitation employee who passed away four years ago. The protest was organised as the deceased's son, Aman, had been moving from pillar to post for four years to secure a job on compensatory grounds. The demonstration concluded after Mayor Inderjit Kaur met with the protesters and provided an assurance that the job would be granted within one week.Gaurav Bhatti shared that the employee, Mukesh, had served as a sanitation worker in his ward for many years until his death four years ago. Since then, Aman has struggled to secure employment in his father's place despite coming from an impoverished background. The family's financial condition is dire, with Aman's mother currently working in private homes to support the household. During the protest, Bhatti pointed out that he was shown an MC order approved in December last year, which stated that families of deceased employees working at DC rates would not receive such benefits. However, he argued that many other families were granted jobs during these same four years. He requested that the process of providing employment to this specific family, as well as others in similar positions within the Municipal Corporation, should be continued. Following the discussion, Mayor Inderjit Kaur listened to the grievances and committed to reviewing the case to facilitate the job offer.
