Ludhiana swelters at 42°C, relief expected in three days
Ludhiana: The city continued to endure intense summer heat on Monday as the maximum daytime temperature hit 42°C—matching the previous day’s figure and tracking 2.8°C above normal. While the India Meteorological Department has warned of an imminent heat wave, its forecast also brings relief, predicting a significant temperature drop and rainfall activity later this week.
The local weather station recorded a clear sky with intense sunshine throughout Monday, while the minimum nighttime temperature settled at 25.2°C, which is 0.2°C below normal and one degree lower than the previous night. According to weather models, daytime temperatures will stay above normal for the next three days before declining, though nighttime temperatures are projected to remain elevated during this period.
The IMD has issued sequential weather alerts to urge public vigilance. A yellow alert has been active for June 10, warning of potential heat wave conditions. This escalates to an orange alert for June 11 and 12, predicting thunderstorms, strong surface winds, and other adverse weather phenomena that require preparedness for disruptions and heat-related health risks.
The prolonged high temperatures have severely impacted daily routines, making afternoon commutes difficult and offering little relief even in the evenings. Local residents reported that the intense conditions are disrupting daily life, forcing many families to consider short trips to hill stations to escape the heat, despite heavy tourist rushes at popular destinations.
