Ludhiana police warn against sharing lewd content on social media

Ludhiana: Ludhiana police have warned city residents to refrain from sharing any objectionable content received from random profiles on social media. As, sharing any such content, especially vulgar content, may land them in the jail. The police said that the cyber crooks are sharing nude pictures to individuals on social media and sharing such pictures further call for an FIR under sections of 67 and 67-A of Information Technology Act which calls for imprisonment upto 3 years and Rs 2 lakh fine.The cyber experts said that it has been observed that when people receive any such objectionable content on social media, they tend to share it with their friends. People are unaware that even sharing such content is a crime. Aware of these facts, the cyber criminals would first share such content with a person and thereafter would lodge a complaint stating that the person has shared objectionable content or in some cases would share malware files with the context which may lead to cyber fraud too.Inspector Satvir Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Cyber Crime Police Station said, "Not just capturing but sharing objectionable or lewd content content on social media is also a crime. People must refrain from sharing such content received from random social media accounts. Sharing such content on social media, even in private messages, calls for an FIR under the Information Technology Act which could lead to imprisonment of up to three years and fine of Rs 2 lakh. Therefore, the cyber crime police have shared an awareness video related to it."The inspector added that the awareness video of Ludhiana police specially targets the youngsters and teenagers who are aware of the laws.
