Ludhiana MC wipes out Rs 18 crore deficit in 1 month

Ludhiana: Under the leadership of Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta, the building branch has successfully recovered an Rs 18 crore deficit within a single month. The implementation of stringent measures, including the zone-wise appointment of regular Assistant Town Planners (ATP), proved instrumental in streamlining operations and meeting the annual financial targets for the recently concluded fiscal year.As of March 1, 2026, the building branch faced a significant shortfall, trailing ₹18 crore behind its fixed annual recovery target of Rs 75 crore. To bridge this gap, Joint Commissioner Deepjot Kaur and Municipal Town Planner (MTP) Vijay Kumar conducted intensive review meetings to expedite the collection of dues. Additionally, the administration prioritized the swift processing of building plan approvals through established government channels to enhance revenue inflow.By March 31, 2026, these strategic interventions allowed the branch to cover the entire deficit and officially achieve its budget target. Officials noted that the presence of regular ATPs has brought much-needed consistency to the branch, enabling more effective action against illegal constructions while ensuring legitimate building plans are approved without unnecessary delays.Following this success, MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta has urged city residents to commence construction projects only after obtaining official sanction from the civic body. Meanwhile, building branch personnel have been issued strict directives to maintain this momentum by ensuring the timely approval of architectural plans and continuing rigorous enforcement against unauthorized developments across the city's various zones.
