Factory worker hangs self; wife, her sister detained
LUDHIANA: Machiwara police on Wednesday detained a woman and booked her sister after the woman’s husband ended his life alleging
In his police complaint, 66-year-old Des Raj of Ward 7 in Machiwara said he retired from the Market Committee and had two children — daughter Parveen and son Ajay Kumar (36) who worked in a factory. He added that nine years ago, his son got married to Rimpy Rani of Bachan Singh Nagar in Haibowal Kalan, and in 2010, his daughter-in-law gave birth to his grandson Lakshay Kumar.
The complainant said after the birth of his grandson, Rimpy started fighting with them, and in 2012, she left for her parent’s place. He added that later, she got a case filed against them in the women’s cell, and in 2013, they entered a compromise.
Des Raj said his son then started living in a rented house with his family, and before 2016, they started living with them. He added that the accused would fight with his son and with them as well. The complainant further said that on 21 September, the accused again fought with him and his wife, and beat them up. He added she would fight with them frequently.
Des Raj said that on Tuesday, fed up with the harassment at the hands of his wife, his son went inside his room, locked it, and hung himself from the ceiling fan. He added that they came to know about the incident at 2pm, and with the help of neighbours brought him down from the fan and rushed him to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
The complainant said the motive for the accused to harass his son and them was that she wanted to usurp their property and live alone in their house. He added that after the incident, he informed the police about the matter. On being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe. They later recovered Ajay’s suicide note from his house, wherein he had alleged that fed up of torture at the hands of his wife, he was ending his life. He has also written that his sister-in-law supported his wife.
Machiwara police have booked the accused for abetment to suicide. Station house officer (SHO) of Machiwara police station, inspector Rajesh Kumar, said Rimpy had been detained after a case was registered into the matter.
