Amit Yadav, Ashu Maurya, Akash Pal and Sharukh Ali powered Uttar Pradesh XI to secure a spot in the semifinals of the All-India KD Singh Babu Hockey Tournament. With an impressive display, UP XI defeated CRPF 4-0 on Sunday.
Another match between Army XI and Mumbai Customs ended in 1-1 draw. Mumbai Customs secured a place in the semifinals by topping their pool, the match was held at the Mohd Shahid Hockey Stadium here.
UP XI took a 3-0 lead against CRPF in the first two quarters.
Amit Yadav (2) scored a field goal. In the second quarter, UP was awarded a penalty corner in the 18th minute which Ashu Maurya converted into a goal with ease. Akash Pal (28) broke through CRPF's defence to score a brilliant field goal, extending the lead to 3-0.
In the third quarter, CRPF changed their strategy and launched attacks but failed to score. In the 56th minute of the fourth quarter, UP earned another penalty corner, which Shahrukh Ali converted into a goal.
