LUCKNOW:
Samajwadi Party on Monday shot a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner seeking immediate transfer of Inspector General of Police (IG), Lucknow Range, Laxmi Singh, out of the state capital on grounds that she was influencing voters in support of her husband Rajeshwar Singh, who is a
BJP candidate from Sarojini Nagar seat of the state capital.
Former joint director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Rajeshwar Singh, has recently sought voluntary retirement to try his hands in politics. After joining the BJP, the party nominated him as the candidate from Sarojini Nagar. Rajeshwar Singh’s wife Laxmi Singh, as IPS, is serving as IG, Lucknow Range.
The letter, signed by SP state president Naresh Uttam Patel, states that IG Laxmi Singh is misusing her influence over district police officers and jawans unfairly to impact free and fair elections. He expressed apprehensions that she would influence the elections and their results and that free and fair elections cannot be held till the time she is not transferred out of Lucknow. He said her posting in Lucknow where her husband is contesting elections is a violation of model code of conduct and hence she should be transferred out immediately.
