Same sex marriage will end our culture: Bhikkhu Sangh VC

Lucknow: Equating homosexuality with the coronavirus, vice-chairperson of All India Bhikkhu Sangh, Bhadant Shanti Mitra said, “Like coronavirus, homosexuality has entered social and cultural heritage. Same sex marriage will make our culture extinct. However, it needs to be resolved with harmony.”Speaking to the media at the international Buddhist research institute in Lucknow, Mitra stressed, “Homosexuals can live in ‘guru-shishya parampara’, but they cannot have marriage to have the status of husband and wife. Same sex marriage cannot be consummated, as it’s against nature. If homosexuals are allowed to have marriage, then the concept of mother will disappear. If the mother becomes extinct, then the concept of the world and culture will end.”He said, “Society is made by religious leaders and not by law. In this regard, the decision-making bench is expected to consult religious leaders of all sects. Marriage is a sacrament and it is not right to link the sacrament with the Constitution.”Mitra, though, said, “It is the responsibility of parliament to provide protection to homosexuals, as homosexuality is an individual and private matter.”
