RMLNLU-Amity University team gets patent for AI-based portable legal assistance device
Lucknow: An artificial intelligence (AI)-based portable legal assistance apparatus jointly developed by faculty members of Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University (RMLNLU) and Amity University has got a patent for its design from the patent office of India, govt of India.
The device has a database of laws, case references and procedural details that can be accessed anywhere without an internet connection. It is designed as a foldable electronic unit that can be used in courtrooms, police stations, detention centres and remote locations where legal infrastructure is limited.
It includes biometric verification for identity checks, encrypted communication for data protection and an offline legal database.
The system is intended for use by lawyers, police personnel, legal aid workers and individuals who need information about legal rights and cases.
Assistant professor of law, RMLNLU, and a developer of the design, Aparna Singh, said, “The estimated cost for building a basic version of the device is around Rs 5 lakh.”
The project was jointly developed by associate professor at Amity Law School Lucknow, Amity University, Rajeev Kumar Singh, along with researchers Shivam Mishra and Ishika Gautam.
