RLD: Rollback of cane control order safeguards farmers’ interests
Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) national general secretary, Anil Dubey, on Saturday welcomed the Centre’s decision to withdraw the draft Cane Control Order-2026, calling it a relief for sugarcane growers and allied industries.
He attributed the move to “consistent efforts” by RLD president and union minister Jayant Chaudhary and chief minister Yogi Adityanath, stating that both leaders had been pressing for withdrawal of the draft.
Dubey said the decision reflects the Centre’s consideration of concerns raised by farmers, jaggery (gur) producers, khandsari units and other stakeholders.
“It shows dialogue-based policymaking and respect for farmers’ sentiments,” he said.
He added that suggestions and objections from farmers, crusher operators and cottage industry stakeholders were reviewed before taking the decision.
“The rollback would safeguard farmers’ economic interests,” he said.
Thanking UP govt, Dubey said several districts have been identified for jaggery production under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. He also cited the One District One Cuisine (ODOC) initiative, under which jaggery, jaggery-based sweets and jowar products have been recognised as district-specific items.
“These initiatives will help farmers get better prices, promote rural industries and strengthen their economic condition,” he said, adding that the party remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers and agri-based entrepreneurs.
