LUCKNOW: Many city
roads
laid barely a few months ago have already started showing cracks and rough patches, raising questions on the quality of construction and material. The broken patches are a major concern and need to be repaired before monsoon else they will cause severe waterlogging, but LMC is yet to swing into action.
During a survey, TOI found that the road near Bhawani Crossing in
Jankipuram Extension III
, repaired three months ago, has already started wearing out. Locals said that numerous heavy vehicles ply on the road since it connects with Sitapur road, yet the quality of construction is never up to the mark.
In Rajajipuram, the main E-block market road has been lying damaged for years. Repairs are carried out after complaints but the road erodes soon after. Ganesh Shrivastava, a local, said, "Frequent accidents take place on this tattered stretch. It was repaired in patches a few months ago. It was back to square one soon."
The road near Kathauta Crossing in Gomtinagar Extension has huge craters despite having been repaired several times."It gets worn out even after little rain. They don't use good material and just put a thin coat," said Ashok Yadav, a local.
Being part of VIP stretch, B N Verma Road is repaired frequently but lasts in shape for 10-15 days only. "The road sinks in every downpour because LMC engineers are lax in supervision and hence contractors take liberty. The road is repaired every now and then but doesn't last for a month ever," said Abu Talha, a shopkeeper.
Meanwhile, the restoration after road-cutting was so shoddy at certain places that it resulted in cave-ins.
The main road in Vibhutikhand had been dug up few months back for sewer laying and was restored so poorly that it caved-in in the middle soon after and a truck got stuck in it.
When questioned, mayor Sanyukta Bhatia assured that she would soon order a probe and take action against lax officials.
