LU 2026 convocation at Atal convention centre to save huge expense
Lucknow: Lucknow University’s convocation ceremony 2026 will be held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre, near King George’s Medical University, Chowk. LU spokesperson Mukul Srivasatva said, “We have been spending up to Rs 1 crore on convocation ceremony arrangements, including on grand marquees, decorations, waterproofing and other logistics. This time, adhering to the path of fiscal prudence and responsible management of finances, the event will be held at the scientific convention centre, the rental cost for which is only Rs 1 lakh. Thus, we would be saving a substantial amount of money directly.” At the convention centre, capacitous halls are available with ample and comfortable seating capacity.
The decision to hold the ceremony at the said venue instead of on the university campus was taken on directions of Chancellor and Governor Anandiben Patel, who disapproved of state universities spending huge amounts on setting up temporary grand stages and special tents for convocation ceremony events.
LU representative said it has always been clear vision and directive of the chancellor that state universities should utilise govt funds and student corpus funds for student welfare and strengthening of academic infrastructure, rather than for luxury or ostentation.
LU’s first convocation ceremony was held on the grounds of King George’s Medical College (now University) on Oct 30, 1922, when KGMC was part of LU. Thereafter , the university’s convocation ceremony was always held on its present campus , the Canning College convocation ground or on LU’s second campus in Jankipuram. It would the first time the ceremony will be held outside the campus.
