LUCKNOW: While
Navneet Kumar Diwaker
was away from home preparing for his Board exams in a private hostel in Hardoi, his parents back home strived hard to make ends meet and mostly survived on a meagre diet to save some money for their son's education. On Friday,
Navneet
made his father, a small farmer, proud by not only passing class X exams but securing the second rank in the state with 95.33%.
Scoring 98 in English and mathematics, Navneet left his home in Sawajaypur when he was in class IX in search of better education opportunities in Hardoi. He enrolled himself in
Lucknow Public School
, close to 160 km away from his house.
Life was not easy for him when he went to live in a private hostel near his school.
"I was homesick and worried about my father's well-being. He would spend extra hours on the field and took to some other work to manage my school fees," said Navneet, who is a cricket lover.
On his big day, Navneet thanked his father and said, "We have faced hard
times
with no power supply or even cooking gas. On some days, there was no guarantee that we would get one square meal, but god helped us.''
Elated with his son's success, Jitendra Kumar Diwaker said, "We sacrificed everything, from clothes to food and other basic necessities to ensure our son studies, because education is the only salvation to poverty. I couldn't study but I always wanted my son to be educated."
