CM raps Lucknow Police over lapses, three cops removed
Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed strong displeasure over the handling of recent crime incidents in the state capital and pulled up Lucknow Police during a virtual review meeting with officials of eight districts on Saturday night.
Soon after the meeting, ACP Vibhuti Khand Vinay Dwivedi, Gomti Nagar Vistar SHO Sudhir Awasthi, and Vibhuti Khand SHO Amar Singh were removed from their existing postings.
According to sources, the CM took serious note of recent incidents, including the alleged abetment-to-suicide case involving salon manager Ratna Singh, the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha functionary Shivam Singh following an assault in Gomti Nagar, and the daylight shooting of property dealer Sandeep Singh in the PGI area.
During the review, the CM expressed concern over police officers not meeting the families of victims in major incidents and the alleged laxity in the police response to recent crimes. He directed senior officers to immediately take charge of serious cases, closely monitor investigations, and ensure that no laxity is shown at any level.
Sources said the CM also emphasised that crimes with a high public impact should not be left solely to local police stations and must be supervised directly by senior officers to ensure swift investigations and timely arrests.
Police commissioners of Varanasi, Ghaziabad, and Noida, along with the district police chiefs of Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Baghpat, and Pilibhit, attended the meeting.
