Muslim League optimistic of winning Razack case in Supreme Court

KOZHIKODE

: Terming the high court verdict disqualifying LDF MLA Karat Razack "the victory of truth," the IUML on Thursday said UDF will win even if the order is challenged in the Supreme Court.

"The UDF won the case because it succeeded in placing strong evidence before the court," IUML national secretary E T Muhammad Basheer said.

LDF, meanwhile, denied the allegation that it had resorted to character assassination of UDF candidate M A Razak during the Assembly election campaign in Koduvally in 2016. CPM district secretary P Mohanan said the LDF views elections as political fight. "We did not resort to character assassination. We will fight the case in the Supreme Court," he told reporters.

The case against Karat Razack was that the LDF used a video against his rival candidate M A Razak in which the latter was portrayed as corrupt. There was a case against M A Razak that he had swindled money from a consumer when he (M A Razak) was the ward councillor.

The case was later withdrawn after a compromise was reached by both the parties. UDF alleged that the LDF made a video in which the consumer alleged that the UDF candidate was corrupt. UDF had alleged that video was shown at public places using the vehicle allotted for Karat Razack.
