Customs recover gold swallowed by passenger after two days
Kozhikode: Customs officials on Thursday were able to recover seven gold pieces which were swallowed by a passenger who arrived at the Karipur airport on Monday night. According to customs officials, 208 grams of gold worth around Rs 7 lakhs were recovered from Koduvally native Cheriyala Mannil Navas.
He was nabbed by the customs officials when the door frame metal detector at the airport customs counter beeped when he walked through, signalling presence of gold in his body.

Navas was admitted at the Kozhikode Government Medical College hospital, where he was given laxatives to eject the gold pieces.
An X- ray examination of his stomach conducted at a private hospital in Kondotty revealed seven gold pieces stuck in the intestine. The seizure was carried out by the customs team led by assistant commissioner M Mohamed Rafic, superintendents Dasmalick, Pattrice Joseph, among others.
