NEW DELHI: Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the RG Kar rape-murder case, has been taken for a medical examination on Friday.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The arrest came just six hours after a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case.
On Thursday, CBI officials took Sanjay Roy for a medical checkup at ESI Joka. However, the van turned back midway due to protests by doctors at the hospital, raising safety concerns.
He was then taken to Command Hospital, which declined to conduct the examination, and was finally brought to BR Singh Hospital in Sealdah, where the medical process was completed.
Meanwhile, doctors across the country have intensified protests following the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College. Junior doctors and medical students at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad staged protests against the rape and murder of the resident doctor.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine. According to the official statement released by the IMA on Thursday, this strike will last from 6am on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
