Sixth Sangeet Mela begins on Sunday

the sixth sangeet mela will begin from sunday at rabindra sadan. as many as 525 artistes, including the veteran ce-lebrity and 100 young singers, will perform at the nine-day mela. organised by the youth services department of the government of west bengal, the mela will be inaugurated by noted singer sandhya mukhopadhyay. eminent instrumentalist v.balsara would be given the kanika bandyopadhyay memorial awa-rd for life time achievement during the festival, youth services minister md salim said on thursday. for the first time, the mela will launch its own website (www. iiimindia.org) to reach out to a larger audience. the website would also help young singers to market their cassettes and cds. during the nine day festival, there would be five podiums - two meant exclusively for folk songs. cassettes and cds would be available in the 15 stalls to be put up. a new cassette of hindi songs by manna dey would be released on april 15, salim said.
