NEW DELHI: Congress' Isha Khan Choudhury won the Maldaha Dakshin with a margin of 128368 votes.

The constituency participated in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 7, 2024. With a voter turnout of 76.69 per cent, this constituency represents one of West Bengal's 42 parliamentary constituencies. Classified under the general category, Maldaha Dakshin reflects a literacy rate of 53.68 per cent and comprises seven legislative assembly segments.

The major candidates this year are Smt. Seerupa Mitra Chowdhury from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shahnawaz Ali Raihan from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and Isha Khan Chowdhary from the Indian National Congress (INC).

In the 2019 general elections, INC candidate Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury won the seat with 4,44,270 votes, followed by Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury from BJP, who received 4,36,048 votes. In the 2014 elections, Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury of the INC secured victory with 3,80,291 votes, while Bisnu Pada Roy from BJP garnered 2,16,180 votes.

Based on the 2011 Census, Scheduled Caste (SC) voters account for approximately 15.2 per cent of the electorate, while Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters make up around 3.7 per cent of the constituency. Muslim voters form the majority, constituting roughly 58.8 per cent of the electorate. The constituency is primarily rural, with rural voters comprising about 67 per cent of the electorate, while urban voters make up the remaining 33 per cent. In total, the constituency had 1,573,433 voters for the 2019 Parliament Election, with 1,618 polling booths available for voting.
