NORTH 24-PARGANAS: Four youths tried to break an ATM on BT Road on Sunday morning. The miscreants later fled after alert morning walkers, who saw them, raised an alarm. Police are scanning the CCTV footage in order to identify the gang.
Sources said around 6.30am on Sunday, the youths reached the ATM of a private bank on two motorcycles and Four youths on two motorcycles had
parked their bikes in front of the ATM at Tetultala under Khardah police station area.
Some alert morning walkers saw the youths trying to break open the ATM with sharp weapons. They raised an alarm drawing the attention of the locals. Sensing trouble, the four fled on their bikes.
Locals said that the ATM kiosk did not have any security guard. After the near fatal attack on a woman in an ATM kiosk by a man, security measures in ATM kiosks have become a major concern. But banks are yet to learn a lesson with majority of the ATMs installed in the city and districts are unmanned.
