KP sets up divisional inspector post
Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has come up with a new supervisory post of ‘divisional reserve inspector’ for all police divisions.
The move follows directives from the newly formed state govt to sharpen responses to field-level challenges. Senior police inspectors from the non-investigating cadre will be deployed directly to lead divisional logistics and force management.
Under the new operational framework, these divisional reserve inspectors will function under the direct supervision and control of the respective divisional deputy commissioners of police (DCs). Their responsibilities have been mapped out to ensure that active investigation units are not bogged down by daily administrative workload.
According to the official blueprint, they will act as the absolute in-charge of the divisional control room and the Motor Transport Office.
Apart from handling mobilisation and daily utilisation of the police force for heavy-duty law and order deployments, VIP escorts, static guard duties and sudden reserve requirements, the inspector will also be the sole custodian responsible for the maintenance, care and strict accounting of all arms, ammunition, tactical gear, and clothing stores of the division.
Senior officials emphasised that the roles and functions of the newly created divisional reserve inspector and the existing reserve officer of the division will remain strictly distinct to avoid any overlapping.
