Kol Port records 16% growth in cargo handling

Kolkata: Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Kolkata recorded a 16% growth in cargo handling during April-Aug 2025. It handled 28.2 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo, a notable increase from the 24.3 MMT handled during the same period in 2024, SMP Kolkata said on Tuesday.The Haldia Dock Complex handled 20.6 MMT of cargo from April to Aug 2025, compared to 18.2 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 13.2%. The Kolkata Dock System handled 7.6 MMT of cargo during April-Aug 2025 compared to 6.1 MMT in April-Aug 2024, registering a growth of 24.5%.SMP Kolkata chairman Rathendra Raman said: "This achievement is a testament to the relentless commitment of our officers, employees and stakeholders, whose collective efforts have powered SMPK's journey of growth.""I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making SMPK not only a driver of growth but also a symbol of resilience, innovation and partnership in India's maritime sector.
