JU VC for coordinated approach to campus dog care
Kolkata: Jadavpur University vice-chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee appeals to all stakeholders of the university to kindly refrain from undertaking any unofficial or independent drive for vaccination, sterilization, identity-tagging, medical treatment concerning campus dogs because “uncoordinated interventions by different stakeholders are leading to confusion and misunderstanding regarding the status, treatment, and management of campus dogs”.
Bhattacharjee requested all stakeholders to submit proposals and suggestions to the animal welfare committee for consideration because the committee has been entrusted with developing and implementing a comprehensive mechanism for the care, treatment, identification, vaccination, sterilization, and overall management of campus dogs.
“The welfare of animals in a large educational institution requires a comprehensive, systematic and professionally coordinated approach that is consistent with established animal welfare protocols and mindful of the safety of all members of the university community…the University is committed to safeguarding the well-being of the animals that share our campuses, while also ensuring the safety, comfort, and interests of students, employees, residents, visitors, and all other users of the campus,” the VC wrote in his appeal.
