CBI seeks court nod to record teachers’ statements

Kolkata: The CBI on Monday made a plea before the special CBI court to record magisterial statements of four teachers — who had allegedly paid money to TMC Burwan MLA Jiban Krishna Saha, now in custody — under Section 164 of the CrPC in connection to the teacher recruitment scam.
The CBI had earlier submitted several messages exchanged between Saha and the candidates who allegedly did not secure a job even after paying money. The agency had recorded several statements related to former education minister Partha Chatterjee in the same case. The CBI had also presented before the court call records of Saha with “undeserving candidates” from his constituency.
Saha’s lawyer Biplab Goswami said, “There is no reason why the CBI is keeping Saha in custody even after granting him bail. We have seen such statements being recorded in the case of Partha Chatterjee. But that has no connection with granting them bail. The agency is keeping them behind bars without any reason.” Saha will be brought to the court on September 18. tnn
