Woman rearing sheep dies in lightning strike in Satara

Kolhapur: A 29‑year‑old woman was killed in a lightning strike at Satara's Karadwadi village in Khandala tehsil on Monday afternoon.The deceased, identified as Sonali Ajit Karade, was rearing sheep when she was struck by lightning. In a separate incident, shepherd Nandkumar Pandurang Pisal from Asle village in Wai tehsil was injured after being struck by lightning and was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.Lightning strikes also left nine sheep dead. With this, the total number of sheep killed by lightning in Satara district has risen to 34 over the last two days.The district witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and hail in some areas. District collector Santosh Patil has directed local authorities to conduct a detailed assessment and submit reports on losses to infrastructure, agriculture and livestock.
