Kolhapur: The head of state planning commission MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar inspected the Jayanti nullah and flood-prone areas on Thursday to ensure effective water drainage within the city due to the recent rain.
Kshirsagar instructed Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials to submit an action plan for cleaning of both nullahs and drainage ducts within two days.
Kshirsagar said, "Clogged drainage ducts have caused waterlogging on roads during the unseasonal rain in two days. Therefore, as a matter of priority, these drainage ducts must be cleaned in coordination with the relevant agencies."
Kshirsagar warned that the ward officers and officials from the health department will be responsible for anynegligence regarding the drain-cleaning operations.
"All necessary machinery required for desilting the drains be kept in a state of readiness. Transparency in the work should be maintained, and KMC officials should ensure completing 100% of the drain cleaning before the onset of the monsoon so that water does not accumulate in low-lying areas, nor does it stagnate on the roads during the upcoming monsoon season or during any unseasonal rainfall," added Kshirsagar.
On this occasion, KMC deputy commissioner Paritosh Kankal, deputy city engineer Gujar, chief health inspector Jaywant Powar, Shiv Sena deputy district chief Tukaram Salokhe, corporator Ashpak Ajrekar and others were present.
