Kolhapur: The body of Arti Tilekar, 30, who went missing on Friday after an SUV plunged into the right bank canal of the Nira river, at Natepute village in Solapur district, was found in the canal on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The search for Tilekar ended at 3.30pm. She had been missing since the SUV her husband Sunil was driving plunged into the canal on Friday morning. Her husband had survived, while her father and mother drowned.
"Her body was found some distance away from where the car plunged into the water. Our rescuers located the body and retrieved it. The husband has been informed," Shaktisagar Dhole, Solapur's district disaster management officer, toldTOI.
The accident took place at 4.30 am on Friday. The Tilekars left their home in Kalamboli and picked up the elderly couple, Hanumant Jathar and his wife, Manjul. Arti Tilekar and her family were going to Mahabaleshwar.
The police said the driver got drowsy and could not judge the bridge road and drove into the waterbody.
