Kolhapur: A man, with help from his son, allegedly murdered his 72-year-old father and 40 year-old-brother at Hingangaon village of Hatkanangle tehsil of Kolhapur district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Maruti Bandu Kundale and Shital (son), while the accused are Sambhaji (47) and his 20-year-old son Vivek. According to the police, Sambhaji wanted a fair share of the ancestral property. However, Maruti gave an additional acre of land to his Shital which led to the dispute.
Sharad Memane, police inspector of Hatkanangle police station, said, "There used to be frequent fights between the two brothers over property sharing. Several people tried to mediate and find a way out. After mediation efforts borne no results, the family had become isolated. In such a situation, Sambhaji and Vivek attacked Maruti and Shital. They used a spade and hoe for the attack. Maruti and Shital died on the spot. Later, Sambhaji surrendered before the police and confessed to the crime. His son Vivek is admitted to a hospital and we will soon arrest him as well."
Sambhaji was presented before the local court in Vadgaon and has been remanded in police custody till April 4.
