Kolhapur civic bodymeets 82% of revenue target for 2025-26 FY
Kolhapur: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) fell short of Rs111 crore from meeting the revenue target of Rs635 crore set for the financial year 2025-26.The civic body managed to collect only 82% of the set target — a total revenue of Rs524 crore — for the fiscal that ended on Tuesday.A major chunk of the Rs524 crore collection is the grants from the Centre and state towards local body tax compensation which is Rs234 crore. This means, the KMC managed to collect Rs290 crore from its own sources i.e. property tax, town planning fees, water tax and other taxes.The tax target from its own sources was set at Rs401 crore, but the KMC managed to collect Rs290 crore (72%). The town planning department, which collects fees for building permissions, layout sanctioning has collected Rs118 crore out of Rs120 crore — record revenue for the department till date.From property tax, the KMC collected Rs 68 crore, while the target set was Rs 111 crore. The water tax department, however, fared poorly in tax recovery. The department collected only Rs48 crore out of the Rs90 crore target. "Most of the recovery due is with govt establishments," a civic official said.Sanjay Sarnaik, assistant commissioner and chief accountant of the KMC, said, "In the coming year, the emphasis will be to increase the tax collection and reduce unnecessary expenses. To add more properties in the tax net, GIS will be used to locate and assess the properties. In case of water supply dept, with the help of robotics, leakages will be detected. Flow meters to the main water tanks will be fit for auditing."
