80-yr-old man dies in bison attack in Radhanagari

Kolhapur: An 80-year-old man died after being attacked by a bison near Radhanagari forest in Kolhapur district on Saturday.The deceased — Shamrao Kondiba Korane, a resident of a village in Radhanagari tehsil of Kolhapur district — was taken to the CPR Hospital in Kolhapur city where he was declared dead. According to the police, Korane was resting under a tree when the bison came from nowhere. The animal charged at Korane and one of its horns pierced the man's chest."The forest officials were informed about the attack and a team visited the site. The team found marks of bison hooves. Later the doctors also confirmed that it was a bison attack," a police officer said.Besides attacks by leopard, bison attacks are also on rise in Kolhapur. Forest officials claim that bisons may be turning wild due to scorching heat or attack if they sense there is some threat. The village is near Dajipur's forests famous for hosting bisons in large numbers.
