24-year-old Sangli man found dead in Ichalkaranji

Kolhapur: A 24-year-old man from Sangli was found dead with his face severely disfigured in the Shahapur area of Ichalkaranji on Wednesday morning. Police said the identity of the man remained unknown for several hours because his face had been severely disfigured with a large boulder. "We have identified the deceased as Shahbaj Shabbir Shaikh, who has relatives in Ichalkaranji. Prima facie it seems to be a case of murder by strangulation using a handkerchief. Our investigation showed that Shaikh had left home with his friends," Vikrant Gaikwad, sub-divisional police officer, Ichalkaranji division, said.The body was found in an open field accessible through a dirt road. A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. The Kolhapur police crime branch has detained a person in connection with the alleged murder.
