Yellow alert in state from tomorrow

Kochi: India meteorological department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall with yellow alert for various districts from Sunday to Tuesday. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Malappuram and Ernakulam are on yellow alert on Sunday.IMD said conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance in the next two to three days. Monsoon rain is expected to advance into more parts of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and most parts of Bay of Bengal.A cyclonic circulation persists over southeast Arabian Sea and its surrounding areas and is present over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast. The cyclonic circulation persists over centraleast and southeast Bay of Bengal.Meanwhile, Alappuzha, Kollam and Kottayam districts received large excess rainfall in the past week between May 21 and 27, whereas Ernakulam recorded excess rainfall. However, Malappuram, Palakkad and Wayanad districts recorded large deficient rainfall in the past week and Kannur, Idukki and Kasaragod received deficient rains than normal. Remaining districts received normal rains.
