Under-construction building collapses in Idukki
A major tragedy was averted as there were no workers or other persons inside the building at the time of the incident
Idukki: A four-storey building under construction at Pambanar near Peermade, Idukki, collapsed on Wednesday night.A major tragedy was averted as there were no workers or other persons inside the building, owned by Pambanar native Agnel, at the time of the incident.Preliminary assessments suggest that unscientific construction practices and structural deficiencies may have contributed to the collapse. A large quantity of soil had reportedly been filled beside the building to bridge the gap between the structure and the road.Continuous heavy rainfall in the area is believed to have loosened the soil, weakening the building’s foundation and ultimately causing the collapse.Police and fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the site and carried out inspections after receiving information about the incident.Public representatives, including the presidents of Azhutha block and Peermade grama panchayat, along with officials, visited the site to assess the situation and initiate further action.
