Kochi: Budget of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit for the financial year 2026–27 proposes new courses, green initiatives and major digital upgrades. The budget was presented by finance committee convener and syndicate member K Premkumar on Tuesday at the university's main campus in Kalady.The university is set to roll out foreign language and new generation courses. A four-year integrated BA–BEd teacher education programme with 50 seats, approved by NCTE, will commence in the upcoming academic year.

The budget proposes that the university form a green audit team and implement projects to transform the institution into state's first carbon-neutral university. Five advanced smart classrooms will be set up and existing digital classrooms will be upgraded. Model women-friendly rooms will be established in all buildings, the budget says. The university estimates Rs 165.85 crore in revenue and Rs 177.19 crore in expenditure, with a deficit of Rs 11.34 crore. Allocations include Rs 3 crore for research fellowships, Rs 60 lakh for Sanskrit encouragement scholarships, Rs 1.5 crore for IT infrastructure and servers and Rs 1 crore each for library development and an online learning centre. Funds were also earmarked for seminars, campus development, museum expansion and sports activities.
