Thrissur: A apartment complex security guard has been sentenced to six years of RI for trying to sexually abuse an 11-year-old girl. Fast track court judge

Bindu Sudhakaran

also slapped a Rs 35,000 fine on the accused

Mohanraj

(60), son of

Nithyanandan of Ayyanthole

. According to special prosecutor K P Ajay Kumar, Mohanraj had tried to sexually abuse the girl who was playing on the building’s veranda. She had become scared, ran back to her house and informed her parents. They filed a complaint with police.
The case has assumed a special significance as the incident had taken place on Jan 28, 2021, and the judgment was pronounced within a year after completion of investigation and other procedures. This is a rare achievement considering that some Pocso cases take years to complete, creating agonizing situations for the survivors, according Ajay Kumar.
Often, victims would start a different life by the time the case is taken up for trial and the judgment is delivered. By then, some would not like to even think about the incident, let alone give testimonies, because of the harrowing experiences they underwent, he said. Interestingly, though the Pocso Act had come into existence in 2012, some cases registered back in 2013 are still pending before the courts without the trial even starting. TNN
