Kochi: The Kerala women’s commission has cautioned the society against the increasing disintegration of family ties among the well-educated communities. The commission which held the district-level sitting on Wednesday said that ‘jagrata’ committees in residential areas should play a stronger role as there is an increase in neighbourhood conflicts which is visible in the complaints being registered at adalats.
At the sitting held in the Ernakulam district panchayat hall, commission members Indira Ravindran, Elizabeth Mamman Mathai and V R Mahila Mani disposed of eight complaints during the day. Four complaints were forwarded to police for follow-up reports. The commission directed three complainants to seek counselling. The remaining 26 complaints will be heard in the next adalat.
Family problems, rifts between neighbours and discrimination faced by women workers in private institutions came up before the adalat. Commission director Shaji Sugunan, panel advocates V A Ambili and Smitha Gopi and counsellor B Sandhya were also present. TNN
