Bison gores man to death

Kochi: An elderly man belonging to the scheduled tribe community was gored to death by a bison within the forest limits at Kathipara near Kuttampuzha at around 11.45 am on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ponnan, son of Kandan (89), a resident of Uriyampetty tribal settlement colony in Pooyamkutty.
According to police, Ponnan, with two others, had left the colony on Monday morning and walked to the spot where the animal attack happened.The other two persons managed to run away and climb trees in time to escape the bison. However, Ponnan could not move in time, and the bison gored him to death, police said.
Kuttampuzha police registered an FIR for unnatural death based on the statement of a victim's relative. Police said the body was brought to Kothamangalam taluk hospital on Monday evening after completing inquest proceedings. His body would be handed over to the kin after an autopsy on Tuesday. TNN
