Man gets 5-year jail for abducting girl

Additional sessions judge, Kanpur Nagar, Avanish Kumar on Friday sentenced accused Vijay Kumar to 5 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 12,000.The court in its order observed that if the accused failed to pay the fine, then he would have to undergo 6 months simple imprisonment.

Kanpur: Additional sessions judge, Kanpur Nagar, Avanish Kumar on Friday sentenced accused Vijay Kumar to 5 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 12,000.
The court in its order observed that if the accused failed to pay the fine, then he would have to undergo 6 months simple imprisonment. The period which he had spent in jail during the trial would be adjusted in the sentence, the court added.
According to ADGC, Jitendra Kumar Pandey, the complainant, mother of the victim, in her FIR lodged at Armapur police station on March 19, 2017 stated that her 20-year-old daughter had been enticed and kidnapped by Vijay Kumar, a resident of Nagpur Chaupla in district Bareilly.

The marriage of her daughter was to be solemnized on May 6, 2017 for which she had arranged Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and ornaments worth Rs 3.5 lakh, she stated in the FIR. After switching off his and her daughter’s mobile phones, Vijay kidnapped her daughter, she alleged.The ADGC stated that as the girl could not be recovered during the trial, therefore, the prosecution had also charged the accused of destroying the evidence. Police had arrested the accused from Bareilly jail where he was booked under the Gangsters Act.TNN
