City’s Tanya wins state chess c’ship

Kanpur: City's Tanya Verma clinched the senior women state chess championship, which concluded in Sitapur on Thursday.Tanya accumulated 4.5 points in the five-round event, securing four victories and one draw. Simaran Sadhwani of Lucknow emerged as runner-up in this category with four points. Sanchita Yadav of Prayagraj secured third position with 3.5 points while Ruchi Jain of Ghaziabad also garnered 3.5 points but finished fourth. Prashansa Verma of Kanpur obtained fifth position with 3 points.According to Dilip Srivastava, Tanya and Simran Sadhwani shall represent UP in the national chess championship.In another event, the Under-13 girls championship was also conducted in Sitapur on March 25 & 26. Kashvi Gupta, Ananya Awasthi and Kritika Bajpai of Kanpur secured third, ninth and tenth positions respectively. All three girls were felicitated with medals, trophies and certificates.
